Day 20: West Fork Campground, AK Partly sunny and warm. We tried it! Made SCONES in Arvi! We baked 4 and put 4 unbaked in the freezer, for another day. The cherry chocolate chip scones baked perfectly! We gave a warm scone to Klaus and I think we are best friends now. On our way... Continue Reading →

Day 19: Walter Fork Campground, AK Sunny and warm. Well this was a talking day. We only traveled 33 miles, but had meaningful conversations with: (1) The campground host at Walter Fork, who knows of Laura from Saline who skied a cross-country race here in Alaska (2) Steve from Cook County, Illinois, who had a... Day 18: Dawson Creek, YT Sunny and warm. Ok, I judged Dawson City too quickly. I suggested to Tom that we walk through town and review the literature from the Visitor Center before we blew out of town. After a sticky bun and steak and egg sandwich at a delightful bakery, we went to the... Continue Reading →

Day 17: Whitehorse, YT Sunny and cool. We checked out a fish ladder today. It turns out to be the longest wooden fish ladder in the world and only the chinook, or king, salmon make it as far as Whitehorse on the Yukon River. We missed the salmon run - we are about a month... Continue Reading →

Day 15: Watson Lake, YT On the Alaska Highway. It rained on and off. We taped over the windshield crack so hopefully it won’t grow. It grew about a half inch so far. We intend to call insurance in the morning and take Arvi to Whitehorse to get it fixed. We didn’t see any wildlife... Continue Reading →
Bears and Buffalo
On the road through British Columbia to the Yukon there is a lot of wildlife. In the past two days we saw 15 black bear and hundreds of Buffalo. There was also the occasional caribou and deer. Here is a video of a cute bear and a herd of Buffalo. https://youtu.be/u0mWJI9Geag

Day 14: Fort Nelson, BC Cool and cloudy. Back out on the Alaska Highway. The scenery is pretty much the same as yesterday, but I got Tom to stop when we saw wildlife. We hit the jackpot: a Sitka blacktail deer, many bears and many more buffalo, and mountain goats The animals were in the... Continue Reading →
