Fishing The Chilkat Beautiful day however a little too windy for my fly rod. The water is muddy so I did not see any fish. The eagles are eating so I know the salmon are there.

Day 61: Million Dollar Falls, YT Sunny and chilly. Frost on the picnic table. We left the Alaska Highway yesterday at Haines Junction, Yukon, and proceeded down the Haines Highway. Moving into British Columbia, we are still driving some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Early fall colors abound in the shrubbery of... Continue Reading →

Day 60: Kluane Lake, YT Sunny and chilly. First thing in the morning, we went to the Visitor Center for Kluane NP, just two kilometers from our campsite. It was just around the mountain. At the Visitor Center the mountainside was receiving sunlight and we saw upwards of 100 Dall sheep, in smaller groups on... Continue Reading →

Day 59: Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge Sunny and chilly. There were three beavers that kept some people in the campground awake last night. The beavers were chewing down trees and hauling them to the lake. One tree hit a camper as it was being felled. I didn’t get a picture until the campers in this... Continue Reading →

Day 58: Nabesna Road, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Mostly cloudy and chilly. The Nabesna Road has been anticlimactic. The Nabesna Road of Wrangell-St. Elias is a good representative of Alaska: inaccessible wilderness. I get that we are preserving our wilderness, and the way to do that is to keep people away. Then don’t give us... Continue Reading →

We stopped at Copper Center to visit Kate at the Bee Happy Coffee Co. We met her Monday, when we about-faced from WSE and... Continue Reading →
Alaskans don’t like signs
An astonishingly many road signs in Alaska have bullet holes in them. I don’t think Alaskans like signs.
Copper Center Alaska
On route 4 from Glennallen to Valdez you could easily pass by Copper Center. Don’t miss this quick side trip. It is worth the time to visit. Take the Old Richardson Highway and then Copper Center Loop Road. Stop in the Bee Happy Coffee Company and have Kate pour you a cup of coffee. My... Continue Reading →

Day 56: McCarthy Road We drove back down McCarthy Road. Tom stopped at a lake to fish, but only having a fly rod, he was unable to catch the fish at the lake. We tried another lake, but the walk to the lake became impassable due to the thick brush. With a tip from the... Continue Reading →

Day 55: Kuskulana River, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park So here we are in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. This only became a park in 1980, and it is mixed in with private land and national wildlife preserve land, and some state land. The only way to get into the interior of the park is via...
