Day 57: Liberty Falls, Edgerton Highway, AK

Mostly cloudy and cool.

Leaving the McCarthy Road and Chitina areas, we proceeded north toward the Nabesna Road entrance into Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.

We stopped at Copper Center to visit Kate at the Bee Happy Coffee Co. We met her Monday, when we about-faced from WSE and headed for Valdez. Kate’s family has been in the copper area of Alaska since the early 1900s. She gave us a lot of history and tips on things to see.

We found Copper Center amusing. Unlike most Alaskans who retire their old pickup trucks to the back yard, Copper Center residents display their old pickups out front.

Kate is restoring travel trailers as B&B rooms.

And that’s it in Copper Center.

The town does have a good story, but I’m not going to tell it here.

Princess Cruise Lines has a nice hotel near Copper Center. We spent the afternoon there using WiFi. Then we drove to the Nabesna Road part of WSE and camped at the road.
