Day 202: Mississippi Welcome Center, Natchez, MS Cloudy. I thought we came to Natchez to view sites of Indian mounds. I had no idea this was a chief area of cotton plantations and slavery. We read several informational boards in the Welcome Center telling the history of Natchez. And it’s pretty much about the use... Continue Reading →

Day 201: Chennault Aviation & Military Museum, Monroe, LA Raining. We had to make an appointment to view the Frogmore Cotton Plantation and Cotton Gins, since this time of year they are closed much of the time. Tom and I had the tour guide exclusively to ourselves. We spent 2 1/2 hours walking around the... Continue Reading →
200 days and 24,774 miles
Today marks the 200th day on the road. Traveling in a 19'-5" van for 200 days has been an adventure. The time and miles are flying by quickly. We started the day today with one of my favorites - an open faced egg sandwich. People we meet along the way often ask what is our... Continue Reading →

Day 200: Gum Springs Campground, Kisatchie National Forest, LA Gloomy and humid. We walked around Gum Springs Campground and moved on to Monroe, where we had lined up a Harvest Hosts location, the Chennault Aviation & Military Museum. The museum features the stories of many who served from WWI to Operation Iraqi Freedom. It is... Continue Reading →

Day 199: Natchitoches Walmart, LA Rainy, wet as can be, and dark. It gives me great pleasure to say that Tom’s gasket tightening work over Thanksgiving has paid off. Right now the air conditioner unit is not leaking water into our cabin. Yay! We floundered around Natchitoches most of the day. It would not stop... Continue Reading →

Day 198: Fullerton Campground, Kisatchie National Forest, LA Light rain, drippy. We walked a trail through the old sawmill here at Fullerton, in hard rain. I haven’t been to Machu Piccu, but I imagine it’s something like this sawmill. All you can see are several concrete foundation pieces low to the ground and one wall,... Continue Reading →

Day 197: Rutherford Beach, LA Mostly sunny and cool. We drove the rest of the Creole Nature Trail from Rutherford Beach to Lake Charles, after a morning walk on the beach. Beachcombing is super at Rutherford. We did get to see a blue heron, three alligators and several great egrets, and lots of other birds.... Continue Reading →
I Love Camp Food CF12
Pasta Carbonara - what could be better! Only four ingredients and one pan. That's a pretty good pile of pasta. It was gone in no time. Pasta, eggs, bacon (because we had bacon and not pancetta), and cheese (we used Parmesan because we had it handy). I should probably post Jen's recipe.

Day 196: Crying Eagle Brewing Company, Lake Charles, LA Partly cloudy, windy, cool. We had terrible weather heading our way last night. Fortunately, the brunt of the weather went north of us. We had some wind and some thunderstorms during the night. I am finding the southwest area of Louisiana to be fascinating and UNIQUE!... Continue Reading →

Day 195: Sam Houston Jones State Park, LA Warm, gloomy. It’s pretty strange how you can drive a few miles down the road, and you are in an extremely different environment. We are in Cajun country now. We learned that Cajun is short for Acadian, the French people who were kicked out of Canada by... Continue Reading →
