Day 317: Bokeelia, FL

Sunny, breezy, hot. The lovebugs are in season.

We took our one last boat ride. Tom already had his fishing pole packed up, so it was just a ride to look around. We saw two small pods of dolphins! One pod was zooming in the water, fishing, I assume. The other pod was very close to our boat and looking at us. By pod, I mean four individuals or so.

We often see this great blue heron sitting on the sandbar at the entrance to the harbor. Bye, great blue heron.

This cozy little cottage sits on an island next to Bokeelia.

We then went closer to the broken islands and saw magnificent frigatebirds flying overhead over the island. They were also several roosting in trees along with many, many pelicans. This is the area where the birds are roosting this time of year and there are markers around the island keeping you at a distance from them.

Had I stopped to think about it too much, I probably would have burst into tears. I am tearing up as I write this, getting sad about leaving. I am looking forward to going home, but there is always a sad aspect of leaving a beautiful place.

These love bugs are encouraging me to leave, they are really all over the place. I am surprised more didn’t get into the house as we brought in all of the furniture from the upstairs porch into the house.

Tom used the davits to lift the boat onto the boat trailer! He heard it could be done, so he wanted to try it. He thought maybe next time he would just pay the $10 and go to the boat ramp.
