Day 33: Seward, AK
Cloudy and cool.
We bit the bullet and forked over $400 to go on a Kenai Fjords National Park tour by boat, with salmon and prime rib dinner. We were so lucky today, even the boat workers told us that. We saw four types of whales: fin whales, humpback whales, resident (fish eating) orcas, and transient (animal eating) orcas. About 14 mountain goats, a sea otter, many Steller sea lions, Dall’s porpoises, puffins, and lots of birds which were all identified for us. Did you know that seagulls have special names? These are called kittiwakes!
We started the day with Bloody Marys and had Glacier Margaritas after dinner.
Sharing our assigned table was a cute young couple from Paris who were married five days ago. After Alaska, they are going to Vancouver and Seattle.
Oh yes, we also saw several types of glaciers. Here is the Holgate Glacier, deep in the Holgate Arm of the Aialik Bay.
Looks like you guys are having a blast! Makes me want to retire!
