Day 50: Museum of Alaska Transportation, Wasilla, AK
We spent the night at the parking lot of this museum through Harvest Hosts. They didn’t open until 10, so we didn’t get to visit the museum.
I talked Tom into driving 90 miles out of our way to the south viewpoint of Denali, because it was so sunny. It was also windy, which may have helped blow the clouds away from The Mountain. We did get the best pictures that cell phones can take!

We also drove through even worse forest fires to and from the Denali viewing. The fire department escorted traffic one way at a time through the heavy smoke.

We heard later that this road was closed hours after we went through.
We then again made our way toward Wrangell-St. Elias. We passed the Matanuska Glacier, which apparently you can drive down the valley to, but after two signs warning us that the road is dangerous, we gave up.
We camped at the access point to Buffalo Lake. Almost to Wrangell-St. Elias!
