Day 13: Dawson Creek, BC
Windy and warm.
Tom found a recreation center in Dawson Creek with sauna, steam room, kids play pool, etc. We enjoyed a soak in the hot tub and a good shower.
We started the thousand-mile Alaskan Highway. It goes from Dawson Creek to Fairbanks. So far it’s hilly and woodsy with an occasional amazing vista when we get to the top of a hill. The trees are cleared and it is mowed maybe 30 yards from either side of the road. Beautiful wildflowers grow along this cleared area of the highway. This is where we saw a mama bear and three cubs, then six more bears singly, and a blacktail doe.
The day began sunny, warm and windy in Dawson Creek but it got cold with rain on and off.
We passed through only a few towns. None have been too big. But we have been finding an A&W as well as the Tim Hortons at all of them.
Here is another place that is a popular chain in Canada. I was just in Boston and didn’t know their pizza was a thing, but we hope to investigate and report back.
