Day 160: Rio Grande Campground, Big Bend NP, TX

Windy and warm.

Here in Big Bend there is a hot springs you can soak in. It was a business 60 to 100 years ago, and now it is a free hike-in spot.

The springs are literally on the Rio Grande, literally on the US-Mexico border.

Along the hike, there is a spot where some Mexicans row over to the US and leave some crafts unattended for sale, with a bottle for paying on the honor system. We didn’t buy anything.

We soaked in the hot springs for nearly an hour, chatting with another couple from Wisconsin. It was a delightful time.

We went back to the Chisos Basin Campground because of its good cell signal and its closer to the park exit. We may have to drive a long distance tomorrow and this campground shortens the distance some 30 miles.

Our neighboring campers have two cots and two soccer chairs set up and that is it. They are sleeping under the stars. I’m kind of jealous of them for doing it but it’s pretty cold at night and I don’t think we are prepared to sleep outside. I wonder if the ringtails will come around them.
